We
undertake research in the North West of England, Lancashire and
Merseyside, Cheshire, Cumbria and North Wales. We also undertake
Liverpool Maritime research. If our researches reach outside of
these areas we shall advise clients and suggest various options.
However, whilst we do not make any extra charges for research
in the Liverpool and Lancashire Record Offices we will make a
transport charge for research farther afield and clients will
be advised of this before we undertake any work in those areas.
Alternatively, we can assist clients find local researchers able
to undertake such work.
On receiving your inquiry and, depending on what you ask us, we will look at your problem and then contact you to discuss a way forward. If what you require is a simple research matter at a local record office then our charges are fairly straightforward. If, on the other hand, you wish us to undertake a substantial family history research exercise then our costs may be more complicated.
We
do not charge for an initial discussion with our clients but thereafter
our charges are based on an initial fee of £30 to cover the first
three hours preliminary searches. This will give us an idea of
the amount of any further work that needs to be undertaken and
we shall then discuss with you how best to proceed and the likely
amount of time involved. Generally, we charge £10 per hour (after
the first three hours) but this may vary. We can also charge a
daily rate (if this will be preferred) but this will be negotiated
with you beforehand. We charge extra for copying, purchase of
certificates etc and we will charge travel expenses for work outside
a 50 mile radius of Southport. Finally we do ask for the initial
£30 be paid before we start work, however, we will only work up
to the number of hours and cost agreed with you beforehand. We
will provide a full report on completion of the work together
with any certificates and photocopies for you and, on a lengthy
project, will provide interim reports at regular intervals.
For local Record Depositories a simple ‘look-up’ service is charged at a flat rate of £10 plus any copying charges where necessary.
